Doug’s 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Continuation Series Roadster

Doug Wheeler is the owner of this amazing Cobra. The car has been in his possession for 8 years. Mr. Wheeler lives Bethesda, Maryland and is the founder and CEO of Partskeeper. As like most Americans Doug enjoys cars, the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family. Doug does not baby this Cobra, it is raced and driven like it was built for.

This is a 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Continuation Series car that was built by Shelby American in 2009. The exterior paint is navy blue metallic with an all black interior. The Cobra sits on 15” 6-pin after market Halibrand 427 Cobra wheels. The tires are Goodyear Eagle Billboards with 245/60ZR15 on the front and 295/50ZR15 on the rear.

The world famous Ford FE 427 sideoiler powers the car. The engine has 11:1 compression and is able to run well on 93 octane. The fuel is delivered by a Holley 3255-1 carburetor with LeMans bowls. The valve train features a Holman Moody flat tappet “B” cam and C5AE-F medium riser heads. The engine is estimated to make a stout 480hp with 510ft-lbs of torque.

Other Engine Mods:

  • Blue Thunder reproduction intake
  • FoMoCo/TRW forged small dome pistons
  • Ford forged steel crank with LeMans rods
  • Sideoiler block
  • Headers and side pipes

The 427 is back by a Tremec TKO 600 close ratio 5 speed transmission. The rear end is a Detroit Truetrac limited slip with a 3.54:1 gear ratio. The car has a nice Baer brake system with 12” rotors and Shelby inscribed calipers. The chassis features a four wheel independent suspension with dual A-arms and coil over shocks.
