In 2005 Ford Shelby introduced the GR-1 concept car. The GR-1 concept is powered by a 6.4L V-10 engine that produced 605 horsepower. The GR-1 was considered a possible successor for the 2005-2006 Ford GT. It was inspired by the Shelby Daytona from the 1960’s which was a stout competitor during major racing events.
Superformance is a California based company that will be producing the replica GR-1 in the near future. They have secured a license from Ford and will be working with Shelby American to offer both electric and gas powertrains. There is reportedly a waiting period for the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Law to change were small manufacturers can build up to 325 units per year without the federal regulated safety standards.
Superformance CEO Lance Stander, plans on scaling the GR-1 up to an additional 10% for larger passenger room. Lance Stander also stated that he wants the new version to make the 0-60 mph run in just two seconds.
We are looking forward to finding out the actual performance stats when the production of the GR-1 begins!
