Irvin “Irv” Gordon and his Volvo 1800S still hold the record for the vehicle with the most driven miles. On September 18, 2013, the odometer rolled over its 3 millionth mile. On May 1, 2014 Irvin Gordon’s Volvo 1800S went in the Guinness Worlds Records with 3,039,122 miles on it. Irvin purchased the car in 1966 when he was 25 years old.
Irvin resides in Long Island, New York and drives his car 85,000 to 100,000 miles per year. He enjoys driving it to national and international car shows.
A few of Irvin Gordon’s secrets to vehicle longevity is to use genuine parts, change the oil on a regular basis, keep it washed, and use the maintenance recommendations from the owners manual over any suggestions from the dealership. He also mentioned buying fuel from a high volume gas station to keep gunk from building in the engine.
The Volvo P1800 was produced from 1961 to 1973. Irvin Gordon’s 1800S has an I-4 engine that makes 115 horsepower and can propel the car to 109 mph.
